Visit to Bombay Chamber of Commerce & Industry

The Department of Finance & Economics at DSIMS organized a students%u2019 visit on 28 March, 2019 to Bombay Chamber of Commerce, toward an exposure to a distinguished forum of stalwarts from Industry & Academia. The Director General Shri Vijay Srirangan and Director Dr. Sugeeta Upadhyay of Bombay Chamber of Commerce were kind enough to offer complementary delegate registration for the participating students, from both PGDM & MMS program. Institute nominated five students, based on their academic performance. The Welcome address by the Director General introduced the gathering about the activities of this 183 years old Chamber with almost 7000 corporate members in its portfolio. The keynote speech by Dr. Amartya Lahiri, Director, Centre for Advanced Financial Research & Learning (CAFRAL), RBI and Prof. Vancouver School of Economics, University of British Columbia, Canada, on %u2018Non-Performing Assets & Lending Growth%u2019 enriching and greatly thought provoking .Prof. Lahiri presented the topic from a sectoral perspective. Thereafter Chief Economist at Axis Bank, Shri. Saugata Bhattacharya put forth the practitioner%u2019s perspective on the said topic. The session was immensely productive and value adding for the participating students.

As a part of Industry Connect( IIPC), Director General, Bombay Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Shri Vijay Srirangan extended complementary delegate registration to MMS & PGDM students of DSIMS. Through DSIMS Economics Club, nominations were made for the nine best students based on their academic performance & interest in the subject area. The stalwarts of Industry & Academia gathered there, like – COO of Tata Capital Mr Govind Sankaranarayanan, Senior Professor IGIDR Dr R Nagaraj,Economic Advisor Tata Group Dr Siddhartha Roy and Mr Parekh, Partner International Tax & Regulatory. The session was quite interactive, participative & lively as Editor Economic & Political Weekly(EPW) Mr Paranjoy Guha Thakurta moderated the panel with his critical appreciation on Union Budget 2017. The students interacted at length with the panelists and networked with several corporates. The students’ overwhelming responses and feedback were recorded in the electronic, social & print media.
