Big city lives have a way of making us forget the power that exploring an expanse of nature at its wildest best has. We wanted to take a day off from the hustle-bustle of the school and wander off into the greens. And what better than rainy season - the ideal season to get outside our comfort zone and experience nature at its best. With Monsoon, nature starts displaying its beautiful green landscapes.
So, on 2nd September 2016 we got ready with our backpacks for some adventure trek with monsoon playing host, to Keshav Shrishti. The students eagerly left school and reached at Keshav Shrishti the monsoon trek venue, by 9:00 am. By now the kids were pretty hungry. On reaching there we had a healthy breakfast. After the delicious breakfast we, then, proceeded to a common hall where we were given a brief glimpse of a bio-gas plant, vermi-composting, Green house, uses of cow-dung, medicinal plants, Apiculture (honey-production) and irrigation practices through an impactful PowerPoint Presentation. The students were impressed by the valuable information and made quick notes about the same in their writing pads.
They were also keen to know more about these aspects and had many queries regarding honey-bees and earthworms. They enthusiastically participated in the making of recycled paper. This was followed by a visit to the bio-gas plant, cow-shed, vermi-composting pits and the green house. Here, they were explained their importance and working in detail. They also visited the paddy field. It was lunch time by now and the children enjoyed the lunch especially the gulab jamuns. Post lunch, they participated in a card-making activity using leaves of different plants to create beautiful forms, after which we packed up and left for school. The kids were served snacks and ice-cream en route to the school. Trekking was fun, and an entertainment for our body and mind. We were truly rejuvenated. The children had a very informative and an enjoyable trip. That's why we love to do it time and again.
